Board of Directors

David Almeida, First Vice Chair
David is a Financial Planner with Lincoln Financial Advisors in Ventura and Santa Barbara. He graduated from Humboldt State. Dave was born in Massachusetts and moved to Southern California in late elementary school. He enjoys rock climbing, basketball and soccer. He played soccer in college and now coaches two youth soccer teams. David lives in Santa Barbara.
Katya Armistead, Second Vice Chair
Katya started her Red Cross career early as a youth volunteer in Pasadena, Calif. At a young age, she volunteered for 10 years and received her 10-year pin. She was also selected to represent the Red Cross on a Rose Parade float for Rotary International during her junior year in high school. Katya has been working in the Office of Admissions at UCSB for 15 years and has been Director of the Visitor Center for five years. Her volunteer work includes 12 years at Postpartum Education for Parents (PEP), with six years on their Board. She is currently a member of Santa Barbara Foundation’s Katherine Harvey Fellowship.
Les Carroll
Les Carroll is the CEO of Seaside Communications, Inc., the company that publishes Passport Gateway Magazine, and, is the General Manager of KZSB AM1290, the Santa Barbara News-Press Radio Station. Les has served on the boards of The Milpas Association and Lincoln Club, and, on various committees for the Santa Barbara Region Chamber of Commerce, Emergency Public Information Communicators, the Catholic Charities People Helping People Committee, and, the United Way Painted Cave Fire Relief Fund. He has also been recognized by the California Legislature for Outstanding Public Service; and, by the publishers of Business Digest Magazine, Commerce Magazine and Business Profiles Magazine as one of the area’s business leaders. Les, his wife Betty and daughter Kristel have lived in the Santa Barbara area since 1989.
Laura Ciontea, CPA, Treasurer
Laura is a partner with the firm of Damitz, Brooks, Nightingale, Turner & Morrisset in Santa Barbara. She specializes in financial and forensic accounting services. She is originally from Chicago and has lived in Santa Barbara for 16 years. Laura is involved in Las Aletas and San Marcos High School Booster Organizations as well as National Charity League, Inc. Laura is married with two daughters.
Bob Grissom, Board Chair
Bob’s Santa Barbara career began at KEYT-TV, where he was Vice President and General Manager. Currently, Bob is the General Manager of Cox Media. Bob has been active on the boards of Santa Barbara Partners in Education and the Santa Barbara Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse Steering Committee. Bob is married and has two sons. Prior to his current board term, Bob served on the Santa Barbara County ARC board from 2002 through 2004 and also has 6 years of committee and board service with the Chemung-Schuyler County Red Cross chapter in Upstate NY.
Chrys Huynh
Chrys Huynh is the owner of Qui Si Bella Medi-Spa in Santa Barbara. Prior to opening Qui Si Bella, Chrys owned and ran the Lu Ross Academy Beauty School in Ventura. Originally from Vietnam, in her early days in the United States, Chrys organized the Vietnamese Women’s Association, persuading Hewlett-Packard and IBM to support her mission to encourage career training and life resources for women. As a member of the Board of Directors of the Buddhist Temple in Santa Barbara, Chrys has helped raise funds for the Dana Project, which helps widows and orphaned children in Vietnam. She has also been involved in a project helping the blind in Vietnam.
 
Ratus Kelly
Ratus attended Harvard University for his undergraduate degree and studied to become a lawyer at Harvard Law School. He practiced law in Washington, D.C. for 30 years before retiring to Santa Barbara. Ratus has served on the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army and on the Architecture Review Board in Montecito.
Shawn Knight, Secretary
Shawn was born and raised in Santa Barbara County. He attended Cal Poly University and received a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism with minors in Public Relations and Telecommunications. Shawn is the owner and manager of Knight Broadcasting which operates KINF-AM 1410 and KUHL-AM 1440 in Santa Maria, and KRAZ-AM 105.9 and MIX 96.7 in Santa Ynez. He is on the board of the UCSB Economic Forecast and Friendship House in Santa Ynez. He volunteers at the Santa Ynez Recovery Center and the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
 
Elizabeth Link RN
Elizabeth is originally from Pasadena, CA. She went to nursing school at Pasadena City College and then attended California State University, Los Angeles where she received a Bachelor of Science in Biological Anthropology. When Elizabeth came to Santa Barbara in 1990, she first worked at St. Luke’s Hospital. She then transferred to the Cottage Hospital Eye and Laser Center where she is now Clinical Manager. Elizabeth started a recycling program at the Cottage Hospital Eye Center which became a model for all of Cottage Hospital and other large employers in Santa Barbara. She travels to Mexico two times a year with SEE International to perform eye surgeries on a voluntary basis.
Molly Marino
Molly moved to Santa Barbara in 1982 and began her career with the County of Santa Barbara in 1985, working for the Air Pollution Control District. She then moved to the County Education Office and worked as the Administrative Services Manager while attending the University of La Verne’s Master of Business Administration program from 1995 to 2000. Molly returned to work for the Santa Barbara County, Department of Social Services in 2000 where she currently serves as Operations Division Chief overseeing Facilities, Safety and Disaster Response. Since 2000, she has worked closely with our Chapter and County Office of Emergency Services in Disaster Response for Care and Shelter. She is a past board member of RITA.
 
Erick McCurdy
Erick works for UCSB as the Manager of the Billing Office. Over the years, he has served the Red Cross in a variety of functions – beginning as a CPR and First Aid Instructor. Today, Erick is the Chair of the Emergency Services Committee, an Instructor for the Red Cross International Humanitarian Law course, a Disaster Action Team Job Director and Staff Advisor for the UCSB Red Cross Club. Erick was awarded the Clara Barton Volunteer Leadership Award in 2006 and recently received his 10-year volunteer pin.
 
Yolanda McGlinchey
Yolanda McGlinchey is currently the Emergency Services Manager for the City of Santa Barbara. She was born and raised in Santa Barbara County. She has been working in the area of emergency services since 1991 when the Office of Emergency Services was in the Santa Barbara Police Department. She was also an Emergency Services Coordinator for the County of Santa Barbara, then worked as a Fire Prevention Officer for the Carpinteria-Summerland Fire Protection District. She has worked closely with the American Red Cross since 1991 on several exercises, emergency activations, and committees.
Kathryn McKee

The American Red Cross, Santa Barbara County Chapter is pleased to welcome Kathryn McKee to its Board of Directors. Kathryn McKee, SPHR, is President and principal consultant of Human Resources Consortia. Prior to forming her own firm, she was Senior Vice President and Regional Human Resources Director for Standard Chartered Bank, SVP Human Resources for First Interstate Bank Limited, And SVP Compensation and Benefits at First Interstate Bancorp.

McKee currently serves as a Trustee of the UCSB Foundation; Director on the Boards of Old Spanish Days, Santa Barbara Human Resources Association, American Red Cross Santa Barbara Chapter and the UCSB Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. She is a member of the Rotary Club of Santa Barbara and is listed in “Who’s Who in America”. She is a graduate of UC Santa Barbara where she received Senior Honor Key and Outstanding Senior Woman Awards; she also completed the Anderson School of Management Executive Program.

She is co-author of “Leading People Through Disasters” which is based in part on her personal experiences with three earthquakes, a building fire and the Rodney King Riots.

Andrew Millar, Ph.D.
Andrew Millar, Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist in private practice. Before he became a member of the Board, his Red Cross work included Water Safety Instructor and Disaster Mental Health. His community service includes membership in Rotary and writing a regular column on psychology for area newspapers. He is married and has two children.
Bruce Porter
The American Red Cross, Santa Barbara County Chapter is pleased to welcome Bruce Porter to its Board of Directors. Porter graduated from West Point in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science degree and from Stanford University in 1985 with a Master of Science in Civil Engineering and a Master of Science in Computer Science. He served with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from 1976 to 2002. Porter currently works as a Financial Advisor with Edward Jones Investments in Santa Ynez.
Neal Rabin
The American Red Cross, Santa Barbara County Chapter is pleased to welcome Neal Rabin to its Board of Directors. Rabin graduated from UCLA and, most recently, spent 15 years as Founder and CEO of Miramar Systems, Inc., a global software company. He has written a leadership book entitled Barefoot in the Boardroom which chronicles Miramar’s journey from inception to acquisition. Rabin serves as a board member of the Academy of Healing Arts for Teens and several technology companies and does volunteer work at Vieja Valley Elementary School in Santa Barbara and the Marine Rescue Center.
Joe Salcedo
The American Red Cross, Santa Barbara County Chapter is pleased to welcome Joe Salcedo to its Board of Directors. Joe was born and raised in Santa Barbara and is an alumnus of Bishop Diego High School and UCSB. He is a Partner and Investment Advisor at Pivot Independent Financial. Joe has served on the boards of many non-profits and is currently on the Goleta Chamber of Commerce and UCP Advisory Boards.

Edward Wallace, M.D.
Dr. Wallace is a retired Physician. Born in Niagara Falls, N.Y. and graduated from Georgetown University in 1954, he is married to Patricia and they have raised six children. He is a member and Past President of the Santa Barbara County Medical Society and served as a Trustee and Chairman of the California Hospital Association, Governance Forum. He enjoys flying, softball, hiking and travel.
