JOB TITLE:  Staff Accountant / Finance Specialist

REPORTS TO: Director of Finance
STATUS: Full-time, Non-Exempt
SALARY RANGE: $19.50-22.80 DOE per hour
HOURS: 8:00 am until 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

POSITION SUMMARY: Under supervision of the Director of Finance, this position operates as a staff accountant performing office functions including, but not limited to, accounts payable, accounts receivable, processing payroll reports, preparing schedules and financial statements, working in QuickBooks as well as other Red Cross reporting portals.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist Director of Finance in the preparation of financial statements for monthly Board meetings.
  2. Process accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  3. Assist with bank and general ledger reconciliations.
  4. Process payroll reports.
  5. Assist with month-end closings.
  6. Track fixed assets and prepare depreciation schedules.
  7. Post journal entries.
  8. Prepare accruals and reconcile to the general ledger.
  9. Handle vendor calls and inquiries.
  10. Prepare aging reports.
  11. Process deposits and enter in QuickBooks.
  12. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education and/or Experience – Bachelors degree in Accounting or related field and/or 2+ years experience.
  • Knowledge – Background in bookkeeping work helpful but not required. Red Cross experience and/or a strong knowledge of the organization’s mission, values, program, services and corporate culture are also preferred.
  • Language Skills – Excellent English language mastery required. Good oral, written, and telephone skills are preferred. Bilingual (Spanish) ability helpful.
  • Computer Skills –computer skills, including competency in QuickBooks, Excel, MS Word, Microsoft suite applications, Explorer and Outlook are preferred, but not required.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations – If tasks involve driving Chapter fleet vehicles, this individual will be required to obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid certification through the American Red Cross as well as a valid California Drivers License, the completion of the Drivers Authorization packet, a cleared DMV background check and an authorized defensive driving course.
