Our Chapter’s Capacity Building Campaign Reaches Its $1.5 Million Goal
On Friday, June 27 during the Grand Opening Celebration for our new Preparedness and Response Center serving northern Santa Barbara County, the Capacity Building Campaign reached of its $1.5 million goal!
In August of 2005, the Board of Directors of the American Red Cross, Santa Barbara County Chapter purchased this 11,750 sq. ft. warehouse at 3030 Skyway Drive for $1.3 million. Soon after, the Chapter launched a capital campaign to raise an additional $1.5 million from individuals, businesses and foundations to transform this empty warehouse into a new Red Cross Preparedness and Response Center serving northern Santa Barbara County.
This new Center dramatically improves the ability of the Red Cross to help the residents of northern Santa Barbara County prepare for and respond to disasters – both large and small. It also enhances the Chapter’s ability to offer more life-saving safety and preparedness classes, disaster volunteer training classes and other critical Red Cross services in both Spanish and English.
The emergency preparedness and disaster relief services of the American Red Cross are essential to the well-being of all who live and work in Santa Barbara County. These services are especially important today, as regional growth and increased demand have strained available Red Cross resources in the Santa Maria, Lompoc and Santa Ynez Valleys.
Founded in Lompoc, the Santa Barbara County Chapter of the American Red Cross has been serving county residents since 1892. During the past year, the Chapter helped more than 30,000 people with services that saved lives and averted tragedies. The Red Cross is not a government agency so we must depend on the generosity of the American people to support our programs and services. All Red Cross disaster assistance is given free of charge.
