Gap Fire Response Update

The American Red Cross, Santa Barbara County Chapter responded shortly after the Gap Wildland Fire broke out on Tuesday evening, July 1. By 9 p.m. we had established a Disaster Operations Center at our headquarters in Santa Barbara and opened up an Emergency Shelter at San Marcos High School 4750 Hollister Avenue (intersection of Turnpike & Hollister).

During the Gap Fire, this Shelter housed a total of 191 people forced out of their homes by the mandatory evacuations. Plus it has served as a resource for the latest information on the Gap Fire for countless other residents.

Our local Red Cross Chapter continues to be in close communication with County Fire to support their efforts in keeping Goleta and Santa Barbara residents safe.

How You Can Help

The best way to help the American Red Cross, Santa Barbara County Chapter is to donate money to our local Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Response Fund so that we have the greatest flexibility to respond where the needs are greatest.

Because the American Red Cross is not a government agency, we rely solely on the generosity of donors to provide our Disaster Services free of charge.

A gift to the American Red Cross will ensure that we have the resources to maintain our quality response to the Gap Fire and other disasters in Santa Barbara County. Thank you for supporting our vital mission.
