Because of your unfailing support during the past year, the
American Red Cross, Santa Barbara County Chapter was able to
help locally, nationally and internationally. Between July
1, 2004 and June 30, 2005, the Red Cross faced some
extraordinary challenges. Four hurricanes in Florida, a
Tsunami, the La Conchita Mudslide, Gaviota Wildfire and dozens
of home fires across our county were just some of these
disasters.
After the devastating tsunami in the South Asia and tragic
mudslide at La Conchita, people in the Santa Barbara County gave
from their heart. They also came together at the Santa
Barbara City College Stadium to form a heart, with proceeds
divided between the Red Cross and Direct Relief International.
Thanks to you, your local American Red Cross was there. We
offered food, shelter, supplies, support, counseling, emergency
communications and whatever else was needed to the victims of
these disasters. We taught critical First Aid, CPR, Water
Safety and other lifesaving skills to more than 8,000 county
residents. More than 50,000 others learned how to prepare
themselves and their loved ones before disaster strikes.
And we deployed 53 trained Red Cross Disaster Volunteers to
assist the victims of the four Florida Hurricanes.
Our offices in Santa Barbara, Santa Maria and Lompoc directly
assisted more than 74,000 people with services that saved lives
or averted tragedies throughout our County.
The American Red Cross is not a government agency. We
depend solely on generous donations of the American people.
So this Annual Report is dedicated to you – our donors. On
behalf of our Board of Directors, staff and more than 1,500
volunteers, we are deeply grateful for your outstanding support
during the past fiscal and calendar years. |
